My paternal grandfather, David Davis, was a founding member of the original Schara Tzedeck Synagogue when it was first legally incorporated on June 14, 1917.

My father Charles was a Vice President and served 2 terms as President in the mid-1950s. One of his proud contributions was to create the first constitution for the Synagogue which had been lacking since its inception.

Our family has been blessed with 3 generations of bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, weddings, brisses, and even mikvah rituals. The first celebration was the marriage of my parents, Charles and Dora Davis officiated by the revered rabbi, N.M Pastinski in 1942; I believe the first ordained rabbi of the Schara Tzedeck.

We are less than one year away from the 5th generation adding to our proud legacy. As well, I served on the board for several years without a portfolio.

I had my bar mitzvah by Rabbi Goldenberg in 1958. Married to Geri by Rabbi Higher. Participated in wonderful programs by Rabbi Rosenblatt including Lunch and Learn and Ski and Learn; which I continue to enjoy to this day.

My favourite memories relate to occupying the role of Seets by the Beema.
I am in the middle of 5 generations of Davis’ the sweet memories of the past were to my left and the hopes and dreams for the future are on my right. It is this sense of continuity and affiliation with the Schul that swells me with pride.
Our family continues to be committed to the future through our support over the years to the NCSY in its quest for preserving the education of our children.
