For our family, the Schara Tzedeck represents the heart of Jewish life.

It is here where we celebrate the births, the coming of age of our youth, the marriages, and mourn those who are no longer with us. It has been an integral part of our family for generations, with my grandfather (Jack Diamond z”l) being one of its original founders.

I now sit in what was once my grandmother (Sadie Diamond z”l)’s seat, and while neither of them are with us anymore, their legacy and spirits live on within the memories in these walls.

When I am at Schara Tzedeck, I feel their presence, watching as the generations that came after them carry on their legacy and celebrate their Jewish heritage.

The fondest memory Andrew and I have at the Schara Tzedeck was from many years ago during a Neilah service. My father (Gordon Diamond) was up on the Bimah and we were all in solemn prayer when our son Jack, who was around 10 years old at the time, decided to go up and join him. Taking the lead from Jack, one by one, his friends started going up to the Bimah as well, and before we knew it, it was full, in a beautiful example of generations coming together as one.

The Schara Tzedeck is a vital part of our family’s history and connection to our heritage, and we hope that our children (Daniella, Jack & Ava), grandchildren and future generations will continue being part of this important community and uphold the values and traditions of our ancestors.
