Sue grew up in Vancouver with her family and parents Herb and Lorna Balinsky z’l and were members of the Beth Israel. 

Rob came from Saskatoon in 1982 and the rest of his family,  parents and sister joined him in Vancouver 1 year later. Once Rob and Sue got married they joined the Shaare Tefilah, and stayed until the Shul was no longer feasible.

The Hector family has been members of Congregation Schara Tzedeck since 2001. Unfortunately, the first family event we had at Schara Tzedeck was the passing of Sue’s mom, Lorna z’l, in 2003.

Teddy was only 4 when we became members of the Shul and Joey was just a year old. Our family has grown up at Schara Tzedeck.  Teddy had his bar mitzvah in 2010 and Joey in 2013 at Schara Tzedeck.

From the moment we walked into the Shul for the first time, invited by Rabbi Baumol to come to see what Shabbat was like at Schara Tzedeck, we knew we were where we were supposed to be. Everything seemed like home.

Schara Tzedeck has been a special place for our family. A place to celebrate milestones and a place to come for comfort. From weekly Shabbat services to women’s book club, we enjoy everything the Shul has to offer.
